The USA sold off it's solar patents post Carter. Energy Secretary Chu has taken aim at getting the price of Solar to 25% of its's cost by the end of the decade.

The US is making an effort to get back in the Solar Energy Race after the selling off of the US solar research department's patents at fire sale prices to the Japanese post Carter. US solar panel market share has diminished from 45% to 6% of global market. Can the Americans gear up? Will the manufacturers stay here or will they be lured away to China by various incentives as was one of the major players already this year.

Researchers in the potato state of Idaho say that they’ve developed a new kind of solar cell that can produce electricity even at night, promising to create a new form of renewable energy. The critical factor is their ability to gather infrared radiation and visible light, Steven Novack at the U.S. Department of Energy's Idaho National Laboratory in Idaho Falls said to UPI. More>>>
